Youth Knews: Faith, Emmanuel, andLong Memorial UMC
Winter 2017 Edition rev. January 4, 2018
The Youth are very active. We meet weekly and throughout the year enjoy a variety of fun activities: going to Gretna Glen camp every month, playing lots of Gaga Ball, sardines, and just goofing off. We are preparing to attend a powerful retreat in January 5-7, 2018 at Ocean City, MD with the Peninsula Delaware Conference--which has become an annual tradition.
The youth ministry is open to everyone in 5th -12th grade. We have about 25 students involved--and about a dozen students at each event. The youth come from Faith, Emmanuel and Long Memorial UMC, several other local churches, plus their friends and family. We have students from 5 or 6 different school districts and private schools. So, if it has been a while since you have been with us for youth activities, I encourage you to come and check out the new energy surrounding this ministry!
Sunday Mornings at 9am the youth meet for Sunday School at Faith UMC—which includes an engaging lesson by Julie Perkowski and Amy Boughter and a chance for discussion and fellowship. Long Memorial is also hosting their Youth Sunday School at 9:30am.
Sunday Nights Youth Group runs from 5-7pm. We have a large group game or sports, a snack, and then a lesson—and of course lots of fun and laughter.
YOUTH RALLY 2018:
Marathon in Ocean City Maryland -- January 5-7, 2018. The youth will meet at Faith UMC on Friday between 3:30-4pm and will return by 3pm on Sunday. This has been a highlight of the youth group's year with great bands, prayer, worship, great lessons and a lot of fun. The cost is $50 and is due immediately--most people have already paid, but if you still owe any money please submit a check or cash to Faith UMC ASAP!
Packing List: a packed dinner for Friday on the road;
a breakfast item, snack or drink to share; spending money (optional); money for lunch on Saturday & Sunday; warm clothes (in layers—it is warm in the convention center and cold outside); pajamas; toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, etc); coat, hat & gloves; medication with clear instructions to be given to chaperones.
SWIMMING SUITS FOR THE INSIDE POOL ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON IF YOU WANT.
Regular Church Permission Slips and Health Forms are needed--and there is a SPECIAL HEALTH FORM on the Youth Rally Website that you must fill out. Yes, that is THREE different forms that you need!
Latest update: We are going to the rally as scheduled. Reports indicate that with careful driving the main roads are clear. Kate, Youth Pastor from First UMC, just found out that the Delaware State Police lifted driving restrictions and that the MD State Police are reporting that all main roads are clear--but we just need to be are of any drifting. They are also aware of the Rally and are not worried about travel conditions. We are also prepared to take an alternate inland route if portions of Delaware roads are still shut down.
Please meet at Faith between 3:30 to 4pm. We are then going to First UMC and will caravan down with their youth group vans. That way, we have more people to help if there are any hazards. If we find roads too treacherous, we turn around and come back to First UMC for a potential lock in. Please make sure that you have all three permission forms, especially the youth rally form. Don't forget your packed meal for dinner and money for lunches on Saturday and Sunday. You no longer need to worry about a breakfast snack, because the hotel has a continental breakfast. But if you want to bring something to drink/munch on between meals you are still welcome to do so.
Like last year we are staying right beside the convention center at the Hampton Inn & Suites at 4301 Coastal Highway, Ocean City, MD 21842. The hotel's phone number is 844-237-3314
